For sure....there is a difference in being "Colored" and "Black". I don't follow any of the pro sports. But, this year, I did have a mild interest in the NBA 2007 Finals. There were 2 things that caught my attention and made me very disappointed in 2 individuals (James of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs). To start with, I just could not believe that one of the black sports announcers said that Lebron James just had his second child by his....get this....his girl friend!!!! Then James is in an interview talking about his single mother, not knowing his father and how his "girlfriend's" ability in raising his son and now 2 sons. Being that I am not a "idiot groupie" or not a "don't have a life fan", I took for granted that James parents or parent had him grounded in a higher level of overall character. I didn't know he was running that loose and stupid. Simply put, fame and fortune does not make ghetto ignorant intellegent and smart with a raised level of morality. Secondly, I still cannot understand why Black Male atheletes would marry White!?!? As a Black Male, I can speculate on some, but not enough to justify marrying white. Aside from the "Black Male Knowledge that Black women won't ride the metro with you but quick to jump in your limo"....I think they turned in their Blackness to be....once again...."Colored".

Because white women are attractive and black women are not. Why do you think non black men don't want to be with black women either? Might aswell realize that you're unattractive and move on with life.

Why do so many black men marry white when they get money? Well why wouldn't they? I mean, you have got to move up...not down. A white woman is a good shot in the arm for a black man. Note how proud they are to be with us when they are at Walmart or other public places. That's the best way for them to go, plus their children are prettier and more accepted by whites. So can you blame them. The key thing for a white woman is to marry one with lots of money then get pregnant within the first 18 months. Then wait for him to commit adultery (which won't take very long) and then get half of everything he owns with a five figure check coming in the mail every month. And no you won't see the prominent white female celebs dating black men. Why should they. They are on top and don't want to move down. They only want men who are in their league and I'm afraid a black man can not fill that shoe at the moment.

I just had to respond to this posting because the constant back and forth is funny. Let's look at the facts. Inter-racial dating and marriage has been on a steady climb over the past 30 years. The general statement that most Black athelete's marry white women is highly prejudicial. We see what the media wants us to see. But do they always give us all of the info? While I agree with some in regards to some black men being "lost" this is true in all aspects of their lives, not just the women they prefer. While this trend is growing, it is still not the majority and a reflection of the general public. On a personal note, I am happily married (for 9 years) to a gorgeous, beautiful, smart, funny, talented and loving person. (who just so happens to be white) I am not a professional black athelete just a regular MAN trying to live the American dream. A little story for you. I grew up in Central New York state. Graduated High School with 14 other AA's (out of 450)I starred in Scholastic Ice Hockey. I listened to 80's music that includes Kiss, Prince, The Stones, Madonna, Cameo, the Police well as witnessing the beginnings of RUN-DMC and LL. I had a mohawk, high-top fade, Uptown fade, Caesar, blue and pink hair. I could rock an Ozzy Osbourne concert tee, ripped jeans and high top Chuck's or a classic white Button Down, Khaki's and penny loafers. I went onto Howard, pledged a Black Frat. I currently work for the world's largest beauty company for women of color and so on. I give you my brief bio only to say this....I define who I am, not the person I have a relationship with. I define my "blackness" Neither you nor anyone else. I am a black man and will be one until the day I die. Society will remind me daily, but I will always be me. Don't get me wrong, I love black women. My mother and sister are black women. As a matter fact I love ALL women. Black, white, red, yellow and brown. I honestly do not have a preference. I just love women. However, I also prefer being in relationships w/women who treat me right, who make me laugh, who support, encouragement & love. The things we all want out of a healthy partnership. These are the traits that I found in my wife. This thing I keep hearing about white women and a black man's money is a crock. Gold-diggers come in all colors as well as hunt in all income brackets. Biggie said it best, "More money more problems" Don't also believe the story about the "white" trophy piece. Before the black athelete turned pro, while in high school and college, he was dating outside, inside and all around his own race. The difference is he is being judged under a more powerful microscope. For me, I was just starting my career when I met my wife so basically I had nothing. Living check to check in Manhattan. 13 years later, a house in the suburbs, two German luxury cars in the driveway, the white picket fence, the dog and the 2.3 kids. And, she's still around! She takes our vows seriously and has since I've know her. I know I would not be where I am today without her. This includes emotionally, spiritually as well as finacially. So you women who are still looking for a good man, he's definately out there. It is not that he doesn't want you. He does. Sometimes he just can't find you or isn't ready to find you. Just understand he has opened himself to the possibilities. Bad guys are bad guys. I've seen the same stuff from my white and black friends. A dog is a dog. Some just look different.

First of all ResearchGirl, judging from your comments, I would say that I wouldn't want to read anything that you write. Black men are most susceptible to brokeness? Are you kidding me? Ignorant and retarded comments like these is a part of the problem and not the solution. Impressionable? Are you kidding me? Have you seen the trash that is walking our school halls in every major inner city? Both men and women are impressionable. All people are impressionable. Please don't write another book on this subject. We don't need another book. If you ask me, the problem is the assumption that there actually is a problem. If we could get beyond that, our entire reality would be much better. In other words there is not a problem of black men shunning black women any more than there is a problem with white men purposefully shunning white women. That be the case, you don't see forums with white women sitting around bashing their white male counterparts for dating Asian women. There is a danger in acknowledging that there is some type of problem. With any and every couple we see, the only assumption we should make is that they are absolutey, utterly, ideally compatible. The major problem we have is systematic inequalities, which we should be addressing a protesting on a yearly basis. We also have many people caught up in a perpetual cycle of ignorance that they themselves are responsible for perpetuating, which is not at all easy to address. Because of systematic inequalities and the perpetual cycle of ignorance that consumes many African-Americans, we have the various negative statistics within our community. I honestly believe that if black males and black females existed in a one to one ratio in every college and in many other facets of society, we wouldn't be having this discussion at this moment. Because of the situation today, culminating with a shortage of black males in many facets of society, black females are under the impression that black males have less of a right to date who they want and find happiness. It is perfectly okay if they (black females) date out there race. Hell, they're the majority and they will enjoy this freedom without ever be spanked on the hand. Like I've said before and will say over and over again: THE HELL WITH SKIN COLOR! Skin color matters when you're fighting to address certain systematic inequalities. But skin color has no precedence when it comes to choosing the person that you spend every single day with for the rest of your natural life. No other selection that a person makes in life is more important!

Research-Girl--most of you are disfunctional in relationships due to the fact that you all subscribe to the same philosophy and modern day thought propogated by mainstream media, magazines, clubs, open and secret, as well as rumor and innuendo. The thing is--what you have is a woman without a mind of her own--multiple personality based on any truth or falsehood planted between her ears during any 24 hour period. About black men being impressionable--there is a little boy in all of us, and for some of us it was a very good time--that said I think Black Men are not going out of their way to find White Women--White Women are finding Black Men! White Women are not dumb--they hear all the hype in the media and from the loud mouths of some Black Women and realize that just 50 years ago White Men were using the same scare tactics to keep their mothers away from Black Men--while at the same time they (White Men) were sneaking across the tracks sleeping with every willing Sistah he could get his hands on--producing "Sunshine" babies all over the place. "A prolific Deadbeat" The actual father of Deadbeatism! Your premise that Black Men have been broken by White Supremacy is false--as every Man knows that after all is said and done there comes a time to sharpen his sword, pick it up and go out and chop off the heads of his oppressors. This is ultimately the fate of the White Supremist--there is no other way. I don't think that Black Men have totally dismissed Black Women--they are exercising their free choice to not get involved with a person who shows no respect for them. Most sane people exercise this choice everyday around the world. Negativism spewed forth from the mouths of Black Women towards Black Men contributes to unintended consequences--such as Black Men exercising their free will to associate with Women who are not inclined to exhibit such destructive behavior. Loud Mouths, Drama Queens, Liars, connivers, nurotics, frauds, social climbers, sex fiends, pot heads, alcholics are behaviors rife among Black Women--which to some degree account for some of the failures in Black Men that these same women complain about. It's like a cat chasing it's tail! They create the problem, and then complain about their creation!

I find all of your comments very interesting. Particularly, Mr. Taylor, who makes the marked and blanket assumption that "black women" as if we are one entity instead of individuals are all problematic and dysfunctional in relationships. He must not watch much Oprah or read the thousands of letters written to Elle, Vogue, Mademoiselle, Redbook, Glamour, etc. where white women are spilling their guts in letters to the editors and questions for the counselors that wreak of dysfunctional personalities and lives filled with "baggage" and issues. I am on a quest to write a good book on this very issue that has truly become a plague in the african american family and male-female relationship. So many have become disillusioned or misguided by the images played out in the media as well as our personal experiences and witness in our everyday outings (mall, grocery, clubs, etc). God knows that it seems that black men have totally dismissed black women from their lives, but I know that is not the major reality. It is only a magnified highlight of our daily reality. As a "sistah", what I am most perplexed by and disheartened by is many of our african american men's susceptibility to being so impressionable. I mean, it really speaks to the stunned and immature intellect of those who actually believe the "hype" and internalize the myths of "white is always right" or "best" in life. Heartache and issues are immutable irrespective of race in western culture. Blacks have unfortunately been so publicly denigrated in society by a cuture of white supremacy in america that those within our race who most susceptible to brokenness (black men)actually succumb to the denigration. This is the initial footing into the problem.

thanl you kenneth for your input;i tottally agree.he is from the aryan nation probably and its ok if he prefers his own race, this is quite natural;however he is trying to convey the message hat black men prefer white women to get around the fact that its the white women who mostly prefer black men and black men find white women easier to use and walk over. many have told me this.
